As part of a CLO3D design course, we were prompted to consider what we would like to preserve in the digital world.
Upon searching for 'digital avatar,' the immediate response is a simple guide: anyone can now create digital avatars from photos using free online avatar makers. This technology allows us to transform a selfie into a unique digital avatar with AI-driven precision in no time.
However, the creation of human life is a far more intricate and profound process, akin to the complex journey required to truly create life. As an artist and designer, I find endless inspiration in the human body. If given the opportunity to preserve something from the real world in the digital realm, it would undeniably be the essence of human existence.
Humans are distinguished by their capacity to think, feel, possess consciousness, and have the power to change, act, and move within the world. The human 'machine' is composed of innumerable interdependent particles that influence one another. Despite our achievements, such as reaching the moon, we have yet to fully decipher the complexities of our own bodies. Thus, in a virtual world where anything is possible, I chose to safeguard the one enigma humanity has yet to unravel – the human body.
In designing my digital collection, I drew profound inspiration from the human form and the miracle of creating new life. The silhouettes and patterns of my garments are meticulously crafted to mirror the body’s systems: from the graceful lines of the female lung system to the centrality of the circulatory system, and from the intricate pathways of the digestive system to the intricate web of the nervous system.
Moreover, it was crucial for me to incorporate realistic elements identified with the physical world into my designs. The clothes, textiles, seams, design elements, and ultimately the avatar characters all retain a tangible realism, bridging the gap between the digital and the real.
