For my 3rd year ready-to-wear collection, "MY S/IN," I delved deep into the symbolic and historical representation of women, reinterpreting traditional narratives of femininity with a modern feminist lens. This collection aims to empower women by embracing and redefining themes of power, sexuality, and autonomy.
The design process began with a thorough exploration of historical female imagery within art and fashion, juxtaposing these with contemporary feminist ideals to forge a dialogue between the past and the present. This research influenced the selection of innovative fabric technologies and design techniques that accentuate the female form, balancing power with elegance.
Each piece in "MY S/IN" was developed through iterative sketches that incorporate traditional silhouettes with bold, avant-garde elements, reflecting a journey of reclamation and empowerment. The materials chosen—luxurious yet practical—speak to the collection's core themes of strength and flexibility, designed to either constrain or liberate the wearer, enhancing the dynamic portrayal of femininity.
Versatility is central to this collection, with garments designed to transition effortlessly between professional and casual settings, emphasizing the multifaceted roles women navigate daily. This adaptability underlines the collection’s narrative of empowerment, as each piece embodies confidence and control.
The "MY S/IN" collection is not merely about fashion; it's a statement of transformation and defiance against the traditional paradigms historically prescribed to women. The use of serpentine imagery, prominent in the visual presentation, symbolizes wisdom and renewal, directly challenging the biblical narrative of sin associated with Eve. It invites women to reclaim their sensuality and power, presenting a bold redefinition of societal labels. This collection represents a form of rebellion, a celebration of the freedom to express one’s identity unapologetically and with pride.
